To the Ones Who Dared (Poem)

Potent presumption
To dance with the dragon
When jaws of the wolf
Cry out for fresh blood
Carefree young kingship
Beware on your borders
The songs of the Sylvan
Are warnings of war.

Power precarious
To dare the great dragon
Whose hoard-heavy home
At all costs be saved
Dragon’s heart guards
A terrible treasure
She, called “The One
Who Must Be Obeyed”.

Precocious princeling
That dangerous dragon
Its dues doth demand
In the price of your soul
Weapons withstanding
Your all for your kingdom
Teasing the wolves
To your enemies’ door.

Passage of polearms
And singing of sword-songs
Lead you the wolves
To the fields of your foe
Blood-shed be short-lived
Surrender they swiftly
And mercy be meted
Where be none before.

A prince’s predictions:
A dragon defended;
And voice of the wolf
Singing out to its kin;
Heart of the Host
Kneel to the Kingship;
Respect fairly won
By the blade of his sword.

Precious perfection
Thee’s daunted the dragon
In taming a tiger
Your lives become lore
Tangwhystl and David
The soul of a kingdom
Will raise celebration
To you evermore.
