Beginning

What skills have I to offer?
For I know my voice is weak
I grumble through the low notes
And my high notes seem to squeak.
I lack the pluck to stand up.
Public speaking makes me sweat.
I hope that I will find my talent yet.
Chorus
For a ring is worth a promise
And I've given you my word
That whenever there's a circle
There I will be heard.
I may never be much better
But I'm called so I will try.
And now when we meet I'll lift my voice up high.

Now Hector wrote a saga
Garraed makes the feast halls ring.
Bob's name is rather lengthy
And, boy, Marian can sing!
They all seem so much further
On the path they chose to tread
And yet I wish to follow in their stead.

Chorus

I've learned a bit of Kipling,
History and kingdom lore.
I've practiced on my bodhran
Till my wrist and arms were sore.
This road seems so much harder
Than the one of yesterday
But this path is mine and so I'll find a way.

Chorus

One day, perhaps I'll look back
On the miles that I have gone,
The pages that I've written,
And the times I've sung each song.
The pain and work is worth it
Just to see one person smile
And I know that I will be here for a while.
