Connor's Song
By Ihsan al-Kilwiyya (currently
known as Inez de Rusconi), 1992
Suggested music: The Scotsman's Song
Laird Connor Falluin Liath was my loyal friend and constant companion during
my early years in the SCA. I had affectionately nicknamed him "The Brute
Squad" (those of you who have seen The Princess Bride will get the reference).
He had lived in Eoforwic before calling Ard Chreag home. In 1995, after the
birth of his daughter Maeve, he moved to the Kingdom of Trimaris.
I sing now of a gallant lad who'd hailed from Eoforwic.
He's an imposing figure though he may seem rather thick.
He's a young mercenary; he's Celtic, never tame
And he's a good friend of mine: Connor Grey-Cloak is his name.
Rum dum diddle diddle dye-dee-o, rum dum diddle dee-eye-ay
And he's a good friend of mine: Connor Grey-Cloak is his name.
Although he isn't very tall, he's built just like a bear.
No one would ever fight with him, for who would ever dare?
His looks can be deceiving - in fact, he's very bright.
Just disregard the fact that he sleeps with his sword at night.
Rum dum diddle diddle dye-dee-o, rum dum diddle dee-eye-ay
Just disregard the fact that he sleeps with his sword at night.
When taking his full countenance the best part is his hair.
And I would say that twenty birds could build their nests in there
But will he ever cut that hair? Just Connor knows.
Say he, "When it grows long enough I won't need any clothes!"
Rum dum diddle diddle dye-dee-o, rum dum diddle dee-eye-ay
Say he, "When it grows long enough I won't need any clothes!"
Connor likes to go to events when'er he has the chance
But one would have to beg and plead to get that man to dance.
Though at Baronial Twelfth Night after a few Strongbows,
I saw him dance with a young lass a-tripping on his toes.
Rum dum diddle diddle dye-dee-o, rum dum diddle dee-eye-ay
I saw him dance with a young lass a-tripping on his toes.
Connor was anti-social once but now he's ne'er alone.
But you don't know him as I do so this fact should be known:
He may just be quite crazy but one thing he will do-
To Ardcreag and Ealdormere he always will be true.
Rum dum diddle diddle dye-dee-o, rum dum diddle dee-eye-ay
To Ardcreag and Ealdormere he always will be true!
