For Tarkatai and Thyra, First Baron and Baroness Ben Dunfirth

The path is steep and the path is long
But we are patient, we are strong;
First the left foot then the right
Will bring us home before the night, before the night.

We watched the seas and searched the skies
To find out where our future lies;
For many years we sought a way
To make our mark and win the day, the long sought day.

Across the waves were neighbours dear
But they had their ways; that was clear.
The northern path was cold, not kind
And who could say what we would find; for what left behind?

The path is steep and the path is long...

The well-worn path we'd trod before
Stretched east and west, but nevermore
Would we look back when we would see
What we would do and what we'd be; our destiny.

We saw the ben that towers and soars,
That casts shade to the wave-washed shores
And at these crossroads we did know
Our home is here, where we did grow; where else would we go?

The path is steep and the path is long...

The paths still beckon, distant and wide
And some are empty and others well tried
But when home calls the wanderers, then
They'll come back to our lands and ben, Ben Dunfirth, again.

The path is steep and the path is long
But we are patient, we are strong;
First the left foot then the right
Will bring us home before the night, before the night.
